Tin is the most common type of ferrous scrap. Comprised of mostly household items and appliances (known in the industry as "white goods"), sheet metal and vehicles.

Long Iron is steel, thicker than 3/8", and longer than 3' x 2'. Truck frames, fence posts and commercial shelving are common examples of long iron. Long Iron is slightly more valuable than tin.

Short Iron is steel, thicker than 3/8", and shorter than 3' x 2'. Short iron is long iron that has been cut down to the appropriate size. Short Iron is premium ferrous scrap.

Cast Iron consists of mainly brake rotors, bath tubs and engine blocks. Cast Iron is divided in to two categories - small and oversize.
